The Solapur wall hanging is one of the popular handloom products of Maharashtra state and it is known all over the country for its unique designs. The extra weft ply yarns are woven for design and motifs with attractive colours to get more attraction and enrichment of wall hanging product. The weaver possess unique   expertise and artistic skill for weaving  this  craft  as  the  weaving  technique  is  different  f rom  the ordinary handloom production where shuttles are used for weaving the weft thread. Here the process of picking is done by inserting the weft thread (multiple yarn plys) by hand as per the requirement of  design and beaten by suspended slay. The enti re weft operation is done by hand  with  the  support of suspended  sly as no  shuttle  is used  for weaving. The extra weft threads in the form of multiple plys are used for hand embroidery work for motifs and designs. One of the unique features of wall hanging is that impression of the motifs and design woven on the product does not reflect in back side of the product due to hand weaving embroidery technique used for this production.
