The home-based vocation, the Crochets, originated in Narsapur, West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh is beautifully crafted with cotton thread. This Irish Art introduced by the Missionaries during 1849 in famine spread descended from one generation to the other. Using cotton threads that are commonly in white or off-white colours, the artisans knit out intricate patterns of laces for dresses, table-covers and varied other purposes. The lace work is done using thin threads and these are again woven with thin crochet needles of varying sizes. Besides the traditional designs connected to Local flora and Fauna, the artisans have the adaptability to create geometric designs and export oriented customized designs and products. Look and feel is the qualitative attributes of the designs and it changes with the count of the yarn. The uniform dispersion of the material in the design generates fineness, look and appeal while maintaining uniform tension of yarn during crocheting is the core secret for getting uniform and quality products.
