Mau Saree (GI No.645)

The origin of the Mau Saree of Uttar Pradesh traced back to 16th century AD. It is believed that Weaving was started at Mau during the time of Moghul regime. A weaver, namely, Tansen, established a handloom in Mau in the 16th century and produced a thin fabric. The Mau made Saree is famous for its conventional look novel designs unique colour patterns and thin fabrics woven by jacquard technique. The craftsmanship of product line in the detailed weaving process is followed by weavers in each step of production. The products are Saree like Buti Saree, Niri Saree, Zoni Moni, Katwar Ambos, Ambose Saree, Anchal Saree, Tanchhui Saree and Jhalak Saree etc.
