Balaramapuram Sarees & Fine Cotton Fabrics (GI No. 152)

The Balaramapuram   Sarees of Kerala is well known for its simplicity, exquisite hand-laced designs with unrivalled craftsmanship and un-dyed natural colour. The traditional Sarees are made out of finest cotton yarn with intricate and unique designs of zari or dyed yarn, which complements tropical climate of Kerala . It is usually a cream stretch of cloth with gold zari or "Kasavu" (exquisite embroidery work created from silver wires coated with gold) borders. Balaramapuram is also famous for its fine cotton Dhothis and traditional Set Mundu and Neriyathu. The history of weaving in Balaramapuram dates back to about 200 years ago and is associated with the royal family of Travancore
